For some reason the TL072 does not work in this configuration.
Switching to a simple LM358, and lowering the gain yielded better results.

It's probably better to stick with one of the alternatives in use by similarly constructed mixers:

LT6231
LM833
LM4562

They should all be available in the same pinout, so it should be easy to simply try them out.
